Finding digital resources for your research

You are here :

Open science makes it possible to reuse open access data and publications while respecting user licences, thus avoiding duplicating data collection. There are many search engines and data warehouses for digital resources, be it data or textual or bibliographical sources.

We may differentiate between two types of access: subscription and open access. For subscription resources, the SCD and CNRS provide access to many journals and databases: https://www.bu.univ-rennes2.fr/ressource

For open access resources, though access is fully open, reuse may sometimes be restricted. Some are dedicated solely to data or to publications, while others hold both data and publications.

Some platforms for finding data

  • Zenodo a platform for storing data, software, and any other sources required for publications, conferences, and projects.

  • Nakala a scientific data warehouse provided by Huma-Num.

  • re3data (Registry of Research Data Repositories), a storage repository for searching data warehouses by subject, content, type, or country.

Some platforms for finding publications

  • HAL, multidisciplinary open archives for disseminating research articles and theses.

  • ISTEX, housing 23 million research literature documents. Tools for mining content and interactive valorisation.

  • Open Edition Journals, platform for humanities and social science journals.

  • Open Edition Books, catalogue of books published in various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.

Some platforms for finding data and publications

  • Isidore, a search engine covering over 7 million documents. The platform is based on linked data principles, with augmented data drawing on many depositories.
  • Dimensions, a search engine for mining publications and datasets from hundreds of warehouses.
  • OpenAIRE Explore, a European platform for accessing datasets and publications.
